Chain link and metal fence installation
Open fences that last: chain link where function comes first, ornamental metal where appearance matters.
A fence doesn't have to block the view to do its job. Chain link keeps dogs and kids in with far less upkeep than wood, and ornamental steel or aluminum gives a front yard or patio a finished look. Because wind passes through them, both hold up better than solid panels on the open lots common around Twin Falls.
What chain link options are there?
- Galvanized. The basic, long-lasting choice for dog runs, garden enclosures, side yards and shop yards.
- Black or green coated. Blends into lawns and landscaping better than bare metal.
- Privacy slats. Add screening, but also wind load, so posts and top rail need to be sized for them.
- Taller fabric. For big dogs and sport courts, on heavier posts.
Ornamental steel and aluminum
Picket-style metal fencing suits front yards, where sight-triangle limits keep fences near driveways and corners at 3 feet or less, and it works well around patios and pools. Powder-coated steel is stronger; aluminum is lighter and won't rust. Both come in rackable panels that follow a sloped yard.
Which is the better fit?
| Chain link | Ornamental metal | |
|---|---|---|
| Look | Practical | Finished, decorative |
| Wind | Low load without slats | Low load |
| Upkeep | Very little | Touch up scratches on steel |
| Pets | Works for most dogs | Small dogs may slip between pickets |
Pool and spa barriers
Fences around pools and hot tubs have their own height, gap and self-closing gate rules, and are more likely to involve a permit or inspection. Check with City of Twin Falls Building Safety, or the building office for your town or county, before you build.
Keep hydrants and driveways clear
The city's fence handout requires 3 feet of clear space on all sides of a fire hydrant, and it sets long sight triangles beside driveways: 100 feet along the curb on one side and 125 feet on the other, by 10 feet along the driveway edge, where fences can't be taller than 3 feet. That can rule out a tall front-yard fence near a driveway even when the material is see-through.
What affects the price?
- Length and height
- Galvanized, coated or ornamental material
- Walk gates and drive gates
- Removing an old fence
A fence is priced after the contractor walks the line, checks the digging, counts gates, corners and grade changes, and hears what the fence has to do. We don't quote prices, and any number given over the phone before someone has seen the property is only a rough starting point.

Common questions
Can I put chain link in my front yard in Twin Falls?
Fences near driveways, alleys and corners must stay 3 feet or lower inside the sight triangles. Check the city's fence handout for your lot before choosing a front-yard fence.
Do privacy slats strain a chain link fence?
Yes, they add wind load. A fence designed for slats, with heavier posts and framework, handles them better than slats added to light-duty fabric.
